how to downgrade 3GS from iOS 4.0.1 to 3.1.2
Hi,
I have got pissed off with Apple iOS 4, it is the worse OS I remember. Multitasking is crap and is has slowed down my whole phone to the point of hating it. I have downgraded whole phone without using any special techniques and/or restoring SHSH files.
This is detailed manual how to downgrade 3GS from iOS 4.x.x to 3.1.2:

0. Write serial number of your phone form Settings - General - About
1. Get proper firmware file: iPhone2,1_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw form Apple, iPhone & iPad News | ModMyi.com
2. Get RedSnOw 0.9.4, if u do not have it shoot me an email and I will send you zip. The file is on Apple, iPhone & iPad News | ModMyi.com server.
3. Shutdown your phone.
4. Put/plug in the phone into iMac/Mac/Windows holding down HOME button. It will boot it up in Restore Mode.
5. Fire up iTunes, it will ask you to restore. Don't do it. Instead close pop up window and press restore button while holding OPTION key (I think it will be SHIFT in Windows). It will ask you for image file to restore from. Pick up your downloaded firmware.
6. It will restore whole phone and come up in the end with error 1015 - it is normal.
7. Close iTunes.
8. Download iRecovery from iRecovery: Get Out iPhone from Recovery Mode Loop on Restart | iPhone … p-restart/ and follow all steps.
9. Restart phone by holding HOME and POWER BUTTON together.
10. When it restarts it will come in recovery mode again.
11. Fire up RedSn0w and follow all steps and prompts. Make sure you know what phone model from serial number you got so you do not kill it.
12. It will restore/load into a phone patched kernel and then will not be happy to do anything. It will come up with message that you need to plug a phone back in.
12. Restart the phone and turn on iTunes, let it activate the phone.

Congratulations your phone is back on track!

Now if you like JB it or not. I use BlackRa1n. RedSn0w will do too.

I have downgraded from iOS 4.0.1 to 3.1.2. MAN IT WAS WORTH IT!!!
If you upgrade to 4.x.x it will override your baseband and if you didn't save it with Cydia then you are screwed, even if you restore back to 3.1.2 you may find that your phone will not connect to the grid. So no more phone. Above steps will still use new modem firmware but get it working with old OS. I hope it will help you guys.

One more advise: do not use Rock and MyWi - first it will crap your phone, second rip you of on money and third there is no support from this guys. MyWi stopped working after 6 months, I have to purchase MyWi 4 now and pay another $20 for it even if I have payed already before for previous version of this program. By the way the old program is not available anymore!
Rock has already killed my phone once before and I had to waste all day to get it working again. Use only Cydia and do not risk lost time.

Good luck.

linuxbuilders.net

My iphone 3gs is slowed down to ridiculous speed. It hangs on apps and is just uncomfortable in use. Whole multitasking is worth rubbish and I am sick of it.
2. My iphone 3g is hard to use. iOS4 literally is killing the phone.
3. I can't downgrade but I would like to go back to old OS.
4. I am heavy phone user, I use it at work for all sort of things and I just can't do it anymore with new OS.
5. My wife is not happy because I have upgraded her 3g to new OS and now I have a fight at home.
6. New Os is not making my phone better. I do not like email rework. Finding there a thing is just a horror now.
7. So now I see a point. Upgrade and then be unable to use it so go and buy new iPhone 4. Thank you Apple.
8. When I drive and have iPod on, or tomtom or any other app which is using a screen all the time while I drive then I am getting disconnected from network and need to reboot the phone to get back there. The some applies to my 3G.

Now iPad:
1. hot!!! yes, it is hot, I can't browse websites properly because none of webs works with Java and Adobe properly.
2. I can hack my both phones and iPad in 10s over a website. Thank you. Now I need firewall!
3. I can't save anything from the website at all. But I would like to save pdf files but I can't. So I had to purchase an app for it.
4. No clock and other standard apps from iPhone there. So I had to look for calculator, clock, and other things with comes with iPhone.
5. Whole experience in use of it is bad. Why I love my iPhone but hate my iPad? Simple. iPad is just bad in use. Whole navigation is wrong. I have a screen like a table and no scroll buttons! Can't edit files, and can do nothing on it. Read 200 years old book form Apple book store - yes I can do it!
6. I have to get Kindle to be able to read some new books. So for what then was this $1000 wasted?

Summary - I will not buy anymore iPhones and iPads. If Apple want's to go this way then it is fine with me. I will just use Sony or HTC. Will get Android or other Linux and stop being ****** off about wasted money.

No Regards to Apple any more.

1. There is nothing in what I do not have in my iPhone
2. Split Video cable - video output does not support iTunes
3. No multitasking
4. Os 3.2.1 is old iPhone os and does not bring any extra functions in, it is poor brother of iPhone
5. If you jailbreak it then the battery time goes down 50%, it means that apple os is using some hacks to save a battery life and when you unlock it then those hacks are not working anymore
6. Accessories for IPad are rubbish. I have already sold most of this and lost on it. Poor design and zero functionality
7. Vga output is working only with some apps. No iPad screen on big screen for demonstration purposes
8. All 3G plans are sick expensive! Apple has promised cheap 3G for iPad! I have to pay $20 for 1G a month to Telstra! This is not cheap at all!
9. In my opinion iPad is too big or should come in two sizes so you can have a choice. If I use it for work it is not practical at all. 50%-65% of the size would be perfect for working man.
10. You cannot have a mouse and keyboard with it!
11. It is not practical
12. Cannot browse most of sites because there is no adobe flash support! 2010 for Gods mercy! Safari is not very flexible on it.
13. One speaker, no stereo out of it in default!
14. No way to send a TXT/SMS out of it! Why? - I have got 3G built in!
15. iPhone apps runs in original size, so you have small iPhone app in big iPad screen, you can double it but this is over sized rubbish
16. No way to store data on it, I had to buy external app to do it but then you will find that there is no way to move pdf files to books store. You need to email it to yourself and then from email level import it in.
17. No way to download large files over 3G, for Gods mercy it is my 3G I pay for it so why I can't use it to its full extent?

So in the end it is not practical, cut of functions iPhone with big screen which does not allow you to call or text, has no camera and is not portable at all. iPhone yes it is great toy but iPad it is just lost $1000 and you get nothing in exchange. Software is bad and limited and this device is in my opinion just a blow into the sky. Blow of my money.

It is not only iPhone 4 with antenna problem. My 3GS does exactly the some. When I put it into my dock I have full reception, but when I take it into my hand it is getting almost no signal at all. It applies to poor reception locations only. When I am in place where is very good signal then this problem is hard to notice because I get one or 2 bars less (3 out of 5 is still good signal). When I am in low reception area I still have full 3G as long as I do not grab the phone, it needs to stay plugged into a dock and then works without any problem. Tested and confirmed on 2 phones.

What do you need from hardware?
1. Reasonable price
2. Stable and trusted platform
3. Human friendly system
4. Free management software with your hardware

What do you get in Australia and New Zealand?

Large systems:

GE Challenger/Tecom - system designed for commercial use. Stable platform however does not come with a software. Relatively easy to learn and popular. In Europe called Master. System is designed like over 20 years ago, redesigned few times, well known and hard to kill. You can get a Windows Software "Titan" for it or enterprise solution called Forcefield. Forcefield is based on QNX.
http://www.gesecurity.com.au/

Inner Range Concept line:
Concept 2000 - security system designed ages ago. System is stable however do not expect it be nice. System is old by design and that is what you get when you buy it. By saying that we need to indicate that it is rock solid system and mainly should be used in commercial applications. Software was built for DOS and I do not know if it still works on modern computers.
Concept 3000 - access control and security system. Replaced with Concept 4000.
Concept 4000 - access control and security system. Complex integrated system, but as life goes on it is not so shiny as is advertised. As we know when it is more complex solution, more problems we get. Mainly it does a job until you start building more advance configuration. System will work well but you need to know it well so you can avoid gray areas in its programming. Hardware itself has many earthing issues so you need to know how to install it so it does not burn the chips on the board. In time there was DOS software for it, then windows software. DOS - I do not know if anyone still is using it, WDirect is for installers only and it is great program, however IR is planning to end its life. Insight is a current software platform to work with this hardware. Software full of problems, bugs and unfinished things. You have to use it but arm yourself in patience because when you find that your customer is not happy because of db crash or things not working you will be unable to help. Shame on it.
http://www.innerrange.com/

ICT Protege - access control, true automation and security system. Modern system, designed within last few years. Hardware can do wonderful things. Software is simple. There is few problems with this hardware but mainly it is cosmetic. If there is a problem with firmware ICT will fix it for you ASAP and then you can upgrade it on your own. That is a big future. The firmware is uploaded into the board from your laptop. In case of earlier listed manufactures you need to wait, wait, wait and if you get an update then you need to replace chips on the board. In here few clicks and done. Software is not perfect but far better than anything else I have seen. I like it for one simple reason. Installation is trivial and any of my subcontractors can do it easily.
http://incontrol.co.nz/

Bosch - they are getting into this market with more and more complex systems and here we need to bring Solution 64 which in my private opinion is far better than Concept 2000 and can be programmed without any manual from the keypad. This system can do small, medium to large business and will be easy to operate. In many cases it could even take over from tecom.
http://www.bosch.com.au/

Paradox Imperial - I think it is bad call, system is nice but here we link lighting control, security and access in one. Is built like electrical equipment and somehow designed like C-BUS. After short play I gave up. It is sick expensive and in most cases Protege will replace it for less with more functions. Protege is cheaper than any of mentioned panels. You do not get nice and shiny box with it, it will be recycled card box but you get premium hardware in. Paradox had once a plan to use extra licenses for more doors. So you buy imperial, then hardware for doors and you can't use it because you have no license. Cost of this hardware is too high, and in the end you have a hybrid of access, security, automation and lighting. It can't drive lifts so you are limited to single level building. I think it is not even in sale because there was so many troubles with it that they do not sell it yet.
http://www.paradox.com/

Genesis - it works. Nothing else to say.
http://www.genesiselectronics.com.au/

Small systems:

All of it will do its job, domestic size and works:
Micron - mini systems for domestic use, great hardware from New Zealand.
Paradox - small to medium size wireless and wired systems, rock solid and relatively easy in use.
DAS - small to medium size panels, I do not like it however it works without problems. It was never easy to program because each panel was different so there was no continuity in the product.
NESS - Australian make, it is generally good product. They do large systems too but I have newer used it.
DSC - they do all small and big systems, newer had any problems with it. In general I like it, they were always one step ahead.

I think that putting speed cameras on every possible intersection as well as in all sort of possible rubbish bins will create a fear and accidents. I have almost lost my life when lights has restarted on intersection and a car on the front of me braked with burning tires, I think it was just Gods will to take my bike in his hands because I had my whole life on the front of my eyes. This conquest to make a dollar is going to create:

1. Seek slow traffic
2. Danger on the roads, people braking in place, etc.
3. Public anger
4. Deaths in many cases, many accidents and collisions
5. Unfair tickets because of faulty cameras and no holy way to self defend by the driver

In here in Victoria speed cameras are set to 2km over speed limit, I got a question - how the hell can I recognize if my car goes 100 or 102 then my speed meter is set to show 5km minimum? If Australian Government is allowing use of cars with such accuracy of speed meter then the limit should be set to 10km like everywhere in civilized world.
Bureaucrats living in their dark holes on the top of the social tree are doing this all unfair, I would say like a thief, practices and there is noone to stop them. They rape us drivers in day light and there is no force to bend their necks and let them serve us as they should. Instead of helping people and catching real criminals and idiots behind a wheel they hit us and do nothing to stop drink drivers and idiots on P plates speeding as fast as their engines allows.

Second thing is timing of yellow lights, setting yellow lights between they change from green to red for 1s is a joke. Everywhere in Europe lights are set for a distance of 2 cars driving with allowed speed so if you near the intersection and lights hit you get a chance to pass without fear of ticket. In here in Victoria in Australia the yellow lights are set to so short time that there is no bloody way to pass the intersection if you drive like 80 and you near the lights. You have to burn your breaks or go on reds. And what it is going to do?

1. Lights goes RED, you get a ticket
2. Side traffic gets GREEN so there is many cases when cars are hit by each other, I have seen it so many times
3. Pedestrians and death on the road

SO MY QUESTION IS:
WHAT A BLOODY "censored" IS MAKING THIS RULES AND WHO DOES CONTROL THOSE IDIOTS AND THE RULES?!?
